The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any prominent awards ceremony draws close, there’s always a demand for the addition of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category that year
  • Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked in 2021
  • Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often small games, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles globally continuing this trend for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
