Labuschagne Left Out from Australian One-Day International Squad Versus Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from the three-game ODI series versus India, as in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a unexpected selection.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the ODI squad after being dismissed for one in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a top score of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has played 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Surprise Inclusion and Team Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his first white-ball appearance in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia look for a fix to their batting top-order problems.

Bowling Returns and Injury Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he hopes to heal from a back injury by the time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”
