Exploring a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found numerous entertaining independent titles. However, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a protagonist that is literally a piece of poop trying to travel to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is simple: press a one button to leap. In one hundred fifty challenges, battle boss fights and access a store to buy customizations for your dung hero.
Time your movements precisely, since one mistake forces starting over. Leap using bubbles to launch your character higher, cross disappearing ledges, and activate triggers to unlock new areas. Earn currency and use them on more difficult levels where gameplay gets crazy.
Graphically, the demo boasts neon level designs and an amazing music score. Its minimalist visual style featuring moving abstract forms evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.
Even though tough to name other games where you control a piece of feces, video games frequently incorporated toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft grenades from protagonist excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. And of course, this theme shows up a lot in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already earned notable awards, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is accessible now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to launch on Steam in the fall.
